The Day - A Little Thing Called Love

As I was working alongside good photographer friend Holly-Jo my day began at the Groom’s house just out of the main town of Burton-Upon-Trent.

The groom preparations - very relaxed, some alcohol, semi-naked blokes and a lot of aftershave. I always have a lot of fun photographing the groom preps. Don’t get me wrong, each and every one is different. Some are quiet and others want a morning party! Either way, I’ll simply document what’s going on with a couple of of portraits of the guys (smart casual ones dressed) just for the bride.

Once all the guys were suited in their wedding attire of white shirts, trousers and bow ties, it was time to head off to the church in the town. I’ve never been to the Catholic Church in Burton before so it was all new. It sits opposite the old Bass Brewery, now Molson Coors. I still call it Bass, it’s what I grew up with.

As the groom was ushered inside as the bride’s arrival was imminent, guests were still arriving as I think they had gone to the wrong church the other end of town (yes there is also a CoE church called St Modwen) plus there really isn’t parking near the Church so you’re heavily reliant on public car-parks which can be a nightmare on a Saturday, just as well there are plenty dotted around! As the bride arrived along with the stragglers, the remaining bridal party did their best to shield her from prying eyes so they didn’t get to peek. The bride looked amazing in her wedding dress and cathedral veil with such a great smile - and why not it was her wedding day.

After the ceremony it was off to neighbouring village of Rolleston-on-Dove (I love this village) for the reception which was being held on the bride’s father’s plot of land. I don’t know about you but I love tipis. Not only did they have a tipi their wedding breakfast for those that attended the ceremony was to be held in a separate marquee adjoining the tipi. On thing I love about wedding like this and photographing them is if the weather is just right, people will just chat and drink outdoors. It’s great. We also got to play with smoke bombs - Holly does love them as do many of her couples. Anyway, I’ll let the photos speak for the remaining part as I’ve rambled on enough now.
